Bavarian Festival in the Smokies
If your idea of entertainment is hoisting high an authentic German “cold one” while watching grown men wearing lederhosen sing and dance, you’re in luck! After booking your Gatlinburg lodging with Carr’s Cottages, head on over to Ober Gatlinburg anytime between now and November 3 to join in their Annual Oktoberfest. Much merry-making will be on tap throughout the celebration with Bavarian-style food, Oompah music, biers on tap, and special weekend events.
Head to the top of Ski Mountain and enter the world of Bavaria. The Ober Gatlinburg restaurant will fill you with delicious, mouth-watering German fare such as Wurst (sausage), sauerkraut, Schnitzel (tender, boneless meat that is battered and fried), pretzels and more. Providing entertainment throughout the celebration is the Bavarian Fun Makers Band, performing Oompah music, traditional folk dances, and audience sing-a-longs.
What is the point of having Oktoberfest if there is no BEER? Never fear! As a special feature on the weekends, Bier Garden Party tents will be set up to help wash down all that strudel and pretzels. There will be a variety of featured handcrafted beers on tap, which will change each weekend, including Harpoon, Hofbräu, Big River Brewing, and Yazoo Beer, along with special Oktoberfest biers like Shiner Bock, Sam Adams Oktoberfest, and Cottonwood Pumpkin Spiced Ale. Kid’s will be entertained with a free bounce house Friday-Sunday and face painting on Saturdays from noon-6 p.m.
Drive up the mountain to Ober Gatlinburg’s Oktoberfest or take the Ariel Tramway for a bird’s eye view of the fall’s fabulous display of color. Even though you might be tempted to dig out your lederhosen (leather britches) or dirndl (Bavarian dress) for this event, please don’t…. there’s a reason that stuff’s not fashionable any more!
